I think this makes a difference.  Purple/blue on white plicatas usually 
sprout first for me, but I didn't have any this year.  I do have a lot of red/brown 
on yellow plicatas in the pots and I'm surprised they didn't start sprouting 
first.  The pod parent of the cross sprouting was 2nd to bloom in that cross, 
which probably contributes to the early sprouts.
