Mickey, *Iris versicolor* is one of the species native to the eastern part of
the US and Canada. Its range is rather large, stretching from the Carolinas
(at least, if not Georgia) northward into Canada. It grows wild in fairly wet
areas or standing water. There are pictures of forms of *versicolor* on the
ensata.com website as well as the site that has the native irises of North
America. I think there is a link from the SIGNA web pages and another from
HIPS. Probably there is one also on the AIS website.
I've had eye surgery and can't look these URL's up for you right now. I might
suggest, if you haven't bookmarked the sites I've mentioned that if you locate
them, mark them. You'll refer to them again and again.
If someone else doesn't respond and give you the links, try google.com and
type in Iris versicolor. Something should come up. Otherwise just put in
Ensata Iris Gardens. They carry some named varieties of versicolor.
Another one of which you might enjoy becoming aware is *Iris virginica,* and
the hybrids between it and *versicolor*. Both of these have some affinity to
the JI's apparently.
Here's Rodney Barton's native iris link:

Also SIGNA http://www.signa.org/
That will get you started.
