Re: HYB: Question regarding white TB as parent.

White iris:

The Schreiners whites are lovely and lacy, but not one of them is worth a dime
in southern California. They rarely bloom even once - stunted - before fading
away forever.
Chosen One is lacy, well-formed and grows okay.
Arctic Express grows and blooms very well, but on a plain color like white I
need more ruffles, and preferably some lace.
Notice how everyone else was recommending light blues and other colors? If I
want subtle pastels I would love to cross Crystal Dreams with something a lot
more vigorous. So far I have only bloomed two seedlings out of it, both nad
some good characteristics but neither was a winner.

Subject: [iris] HYB: Question regarding white TB as parent.

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions from experienced
hybridizers and fanciers as to their "best choice" for a white TB to use in a
breeding program both to work on whites and possibly improve other colors.
Could anyone who advises on a particular TB add a bit of information as to
why they'd chose a particular cv over another.
I know to look for form, branching, etc, but those who have seen many more
cv's than I have could give me a better idea or listing to chose from for a
nice modern TB.
I would prefer one that is more recent as well as a good potential parent,
one that is likely to pass on positive features or "improvements", or one that
has decent features to possibly improve through future selection.
I've read about the nice historics like Snow Flurry and Swan Ballet, but
those are historics that I am sure have been improved to a great extent in the
last 40 to 50 years and would likely push back any program...
thanks for any tips or pointers.
