It is pretty much accepted that some irises just will
not interbreed, for instance Siberians will not cross
with Tall Beardeds. Maybe someday, someone will prove
this kind of assertion wrong.
But while I'm waiting for all of the irises to bloom,
and sitting here dreaming up even more hybridizing
goals, I'd like to ask you all a question. If you
could magically transfer a trait [maybe genetically
engineer] from one kind of iris to another, what would
you choose to transfer? And it doesn't have to be
possible by way of conventional breeding -- I'd
actually rather hear about the nearly "impossible
dreams".
Maybe... lycopene pink from Tall Bearded transferred
into Siberians? Water tolerance of Iris pseudacorus
transferred into Tall Beardeds? Or something else?
What would you want?
