Actually, Dana, I planted a barberry hedge in front of several of the beds for just that purpose. Unfortunately, it doesn't span all of them. Ah, well. -- Griff

Have you thought about a hot wire? Being in town you can't use what most
folks down here use to keep kids out of their watermelon patches <grin> but
a hot wire might slow them down.

Well, what I have long feared has finally happened. I spent an hour
yesterday and will spend more time today on a large bed in the front yard
trying to sort out the tags of 46 clumps in three rows. Sometime this
winter, probably during the January warm spell, when the ground was soft
enough, someone switched most of the tags, turning most of them backwards,
but relocating them, as well. This is the kind of thing that kids think is
a big joke. Fortunately, the beds are mapped, but it's irksome. The number
of teens and pre-teens in the neighborhood has ballooned, so I was really
relieved last year when none of the pods were taken. -- Griff

Maybe my neighborhood children are behaving like dogs? <vbg> At this
point
I have not been given an opportunity to instruct. They have raided my
beds
early in the morning. Several times now.
I will have to approach them in their times of play in order to speak with
them about proper procedure and behavior. It seems obvious they will not
approach me. Since I spoke with them about raiding my mail box, and asked
them not to bicycle on my driveway, they view me as the enemy! One was putting the 2 year old on the handlebars and racing down my long driveway at high speeds. The driveway in much like a ski slope and made of rough gravel. They are waving at me again, so progress is being made. But, Iris season approaches! ________________________________________________________ If you don't cross them, you can't plant them!
