Betty,

Yes, I think it would be possible for us to attempt to arrange what we know about iris genetics in a ladder. Actually I think some of us already do, like SA, BC, and Plicata, and those who work with the tangerine beards.

>From what I have read on posts, the part of the ladder dealing with anthocyanin/I inhibitor might look something like this: (if I remember correctly off the top of my head I is a dominant)

IIII (an anthocyanin self blue iris expressed as white or icy blue)
IIIi a very pale blue iris
IIii a medium blue iris
Iiii a darker blue iris
iiii ? in theory it would be a true anthocyanin blue iris.

I think there has been some discussion on this group about whether an iiii iris is even possible... don't remember an outcome... In addition, there has been some discussion that there is a second type of anthocyanin expression in which the pigment can appear in clumps or packets...( APT ? ADP? something)

Thusly, a tangerine t ladder would look like (t is the recessive tangerine)
TTTT --
TTTt --
TTtt --
Tttt --
but I've never paid enough attention to the tangerine discussions to fill in the expression information.

I think I noticed that Cindy expressed the rabbit ladder alphabetically, but I could only guess whether this is a rabbit convention or Cindy's own personal preference.

I know there has been some mention lately about the wiki project, and while this ladder may not be something that "fits" into that project, we could use the wiki format to create a ladder. The wiki format is intended to allow for this type of collaborative creation of documents... I may remember someone telling me that gmail... or maybe something related to Google has the same multi user capabilities.

Or we could just rename this thread and do it cut and paste style right here.

Christian

To my knowledge there is no "ladder of dominance" as Cindy describes. Would
it be possible to arrange iris genetic in this manner?
