When you have yellow with tangerine beard you have the alternative yellow you need for orange, with the recessive removal of the lycopene pigment from. Or without the alternative yellow,. you would have white with tangerine beard. As the alternative yellow is a recessive, and the removal of lycopen efrom petals is also a recessive, you could loose both in a cross, unless other parent is chosen carefully. Crossing back to HOM soumnds alike a promising route. Crossing back to a pink won't necessarily help unless it is a carrier of the recessive alternative yellow. The cross of HOM to a pink meat t6hat that pink carried this gene. And both carried the recessive for reducing lycopene from petals. Would be intersting to have a good number of children from the HOM X pink, to see what range of colours you had. Are you sure it is a t beard and not an intense yellow? Tried alcohol extraction on beard? Chuck, have you thought any more about expression of orange? Rather, have you changed your thinking about it any? When I started seeing those deep gold with t beards in seedlings from HoM X pinks & some of our discussions earlier, I was thinking that meant this was going to get me to orange. I just dug around in the archives to re-read what you had said previously, and it sounds like in order to be getting those deep gold w t beards from HoM X pinks, that HoM's yellow must be what you called alternate yellow. From what you said earlier, I should be able to get orange by crossing one of these with pink, not necessary to use orange?
