Is there really anything simple when talking about recessives? LOL! I
thought the problems with the archives were the result of my inept attempts.
I've had problems understanding recessives and I've asked a lot of questions,
so I know there is a lot of material there.

<<Simplest search usually works.>>

My summation: Recessive colors and patterns are hard to achieve. Recessives
seem to run in a pack. (using animal terms) (Someone will correct me?) Two
types of yellow, one is recessive. Two types of white, one is recessive.
Certain colors are recessive to other colors. Dominant yellow dominates
alternate (recessive yellow) Yellow dominates pink. Pink dominates orange.
Orange dominates white w/red beard (seem different than regular white). All
take LOTS of seedlings to see advancement of goals.

Then, you factor in the recessive nature of summer rebloom? Guess all can see
the challenge to getting a red bearded white that reblooms in the summer in my
zone 6 garden? LOL! I've got the rest of my life.

Jill, I tried to do a search using the <AND> feature a day or so ago and
t wasn't working right. They get out of whack now and then. I sent a
ote to Chris, so maybe it's fixed now. Simplest search usually works.
It wasn't working right the day I hunted for alternate yellow, & I
idn't think of that term. I think I found it by searching for orange,
hen just looked at subject lines in the results for ones that said pigment.
<Jill, the archives are @ www.hort.net/lists Both the iris talk &
ris photo
rchives are at this location. There are other plant archives there
oo. Use
everal different search topics like "recessive" AND "orange" Or
recessives"
ND "alternate yellow." I'm sure you can think of many more.
<<point me in the direction to read older posts so I can come up to
peed on
he alternate yellow idea?>>
