Bs an aside. I have several microscopes here at home, and have used a number at labs at U of Guelph. But by far the one I like best ,that has the best optics, is a Ernst Lieitz Westzler monocular manufactured in 1949.
I just looked it up on web. It seems that there are a number of people of the same opinion re this group of microscopes of this vintage. When i got it, the oil immersion lens had been damaged by cleaning with alcohol. I replaced it with an original lens of same vintage. Love, love it. The Nikons of recent manufacture are also nice. They have similar optics, but a better depth of field. And a better aperture, that is are brighter given the same light input. But they still lack a bit on resolution compared to the old Ernst Lietz.

I suspect I knew that at the time, just so far back in the dim past Ididn't remember. My main memory of that whole process was the horror of
cutting little bits off the edge of each mouse's ears, tho they didn't seem to mind all that much, and the challenge to the eyes of being able to see thru the microscope with one eye while seeing the paper with thedrawing using the other eye, getting the two images to merge into one in
order to make the drawing. Following orders, not having to think much for that particular job. On 3/3/2013 10:16 AM, Chuck Chapman wrote:

Not needed now when you can merge photos.
