sowing iris

Hello!
Last year (-95) I was sowing the following Irisis
I. Chrysographes
I. Magnifica
I. Setosa ssp. canadensis
I. Sibirica
I. Sibirica 'cambridge'
I sowed them in pots in ordinary plantsoil.
Let them rest for 24 hours inside and then
took them outside to the snow. d. 4/3 (march).
Only 10 out of 17 seeds of Iris Sibirica
germinated. the date was 3 may.
Where did I do wrong?
Does anyone know what Iris species seeds must have
a freezing period?
