AW: Iris danfordiae, etc

to Linda and all,
The original bulb-district here in Holland is next to the dunes (and so next, next to the
sea). Lots of sea-shells are mixed through the soil here so it must be alkaline.
Nowadays one can see also bulbfields at other localities viz. on clay(ish) soils.
I have no idea what bulbs they are growing there. It is a sience I wrote you earlier.
Have a nice weekend.
Herman

ian and hermann - it sounds like sandy soil is very important for growing
these little iris.
hermann - are the soils mostly acid or alkaline in the netherlands - what is
the pH usually in those sandy soils?

big tulips usually keep doing well year after year here if they are planted
pretty deep (more than 15 cm) and fed occasionally with low nitrogen
fertilizer.
