Re: seed germination

gunnar - rodney sent me a short article by ghio about pacific coast iris seed
germination and they do not require a cold period. the book World of Iris
says that spurias also do not need cold, but i don't know about any of the
species that your are trying to germinate. siberians will germinate after a
cold period, but i dont know if they require it.

maybe about 50% germination is typical for siberians? if they are like tall
bearded iris, they may sit there for more than a year before germinating
(some advantages to the species not to germinate all at once)

here, i plant in a raised bed (old discarded metal tub) in the late fall and
they germinate the next spring, but in a climate such as yours i don't know
if that would be good.
