i have always heard that leaf spot usually doesn't kill, but a severe case of
leaf spot will weaken the plant, making it less likely to grow well and
produce many new rhizomes.  so i would assume on a plant already not doing
well, leaf spot could hurt the plant.  also, it looks really bad.
