I have one Neomarica which I picked up at a plant sale a few years ago.
I believe, based on the descriptions, that it is N. northiana. Hortus III
lists half a dozen or so species. Although I've been told they are not all
that rare, I haven't seen others offered.
I like it - though not hardy, it's tolerant of conditions (wide range of
lighting and humidity, any temperature I find comfortable), attractive
(looks like the "spider plant" - chlorophytum - of irises, with the runners
with fans of iris leaves at the end), blooms are attractive and fragrant
(and it's blooming now), easy to propagate if desired but doesn't show up
in unwanted places, etc.
If you're looking for an "indoor iris" (though small, the flowers will
make even the non-horticulturally inclined think "iris") I think it's a
good choice.
