iris heights

Hi folks. Here's something that's been in the back of my
mind for years and years.

Do your irises routinely grow to the "official" heights
listed in the registration data?

When I gardened in southern New Mexico, things typically
grew short. But then, it's a climate that often has extreme
heat and lots of sun in the spring as the irises are forming
their stalks, so it's not too surprising that they open
while the stalks are still a little short. (This is a place
where Darwin tulips open at 6 inches tall, after all.)

Now I'm in northern New Mexico, where the climate is much
cooler and there's less sun. The irises grow taller, so that
they often approximate the registered height. Yet they still
often grow shorter. There's always some TBs that fall in the
BB height, some IBs less than 15 inches, and so on down the
line. Seldom if ever do any grow taller than the registered
height.

So I'm wondering--what are your experiences? Are the registered
heights pretty much "on the money"? a little high? a little low?
