Robert, Some of the evansias are quite tender, e.g. I. wattii and the named
cultivars derived from it...NADA for one. I would certainly give them a try
if I were you...some are very lovely. There are many factors beside
temperature that can determine whether a plant will thrive, but I would be
very, very surprised if the lack of cold were a problem with these tender
evansias. There is a a form of I. tectorum called the "Taiwan form," as it
was collected there....anyone who has visited Taiwan knows how lush and
tropical it is. On the other hand, I would not predict success with the
Japanese irises where you live...but you are already growing them, so it will
be interesting to see how they do. But I do have to tell you that everyone I
know who has tried Japanese irises in Fla. has to date not had much success.
