Re: Scott Aitken's Greetings

:My name is Scott Aitken. I am one of Terry Aitken's sons. Many of you know,
:or know of, Terry Aitken, who runs the "Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden" in
:Vancouver, Washington.

Welcome, Scott.
:
:I have two main purposes in being on this list: 1) as the graphic designer
:for the (new & improved!) "Bulletin of the American Iris Society", and 2)
:to be an electronic contact for the "Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden".

Well, yes, but with a little luck you'll end up enjoying the conversation
too. :)

I'm excited to see how the new Bulletin shapes up. It's overdue for some
digging and replanting.

: If you have any suggestions or requests for changes -- both in design
:or content, feel free to email me, or write to my father. The deadline for
:article submissions for the July issue is April 15 (tax day!).

The main complaint I have about the Bulletin in recent years is the
paucity of articles with real meat to them. Sometimes it just seems like
endless strings of garden visits and varietal comments. I'd love to
read more about breeding programs (present and historical), debate on
judging and esthetics, and good, solid review articles on particular
topics (like the current status of tetraploid MTBs, rot prevention,
reticulatas, etc.) that round up the scattered knowledge and present
it as a package.

Of course, this requires some aggressive article solicitation and
editing. (As ASI Yearbook editor, I know this is no simple task.) But
that's my wish list for the Bulletin (or part of my wish list--it's
pretty off-the-cuff).
