re: new introductions

someone asked how many iris are introduced each year. i don't know the
actual numbers but i looked in the registrations and introductions books for
1990, 91, 92, 93 and 1980-1989. each of the books from the 90's have from 60
to 90 pages and the 80's book is about 350 pages. each page in the 90's has
maybe 10 to 15 intros, and each in the 80's has about 15 to 20 new intros.
some of the 90's registrations and introductions are listed twice (one year
for intro and one for registration) so that is .....i will guesstimate more
than 1000/yr in the 90's versus less than about 700/yr in the 80's. Based on
a few randomly sampled pages here and there, it looks like about 1/3 to 1/2
are TBs in both time periods?

how does that compare to united states population growth rates for the same
time period? we need better estimates - this doesn't sound like much of a
per capita increase in introductions.
