catalog descriptions

The art of writing appealing descriptions of iris in catalogs has become a
unique form. I'm constantly amazed at the creative words used to try to
convey what a certain color or pattern really looks like.

I've become leary of "smoky" and "tawny" colors. (Read "muddy".)
Schreiner's came up with one new to me this year: "Flagpole stalks".
Meaning (I think) that the branching is close to the stalk.

Sharon McAllister, in her new catalog describes CODE TALKER as having "graham
cracker ground". Sharon, are you telling us this is a crummy iris?
