I was interested to read about Clarence's recent iris orders. THORNBIRD is
certainly a noteworthy cultivar! Entirely distinctive, appreciation of it is
somewhat an acquired taste. The colors are unusual. Blyth's CHOCOLATE
VANILLA is another one I like. Like Clarence, I couldn't resist the two
introductions pictured on the cover of Paul Black's catalog, TOM JOHNSON and
RUTH BLACK. Paul Black is one of those grower/hybridizers who I have learned
to trust over the years. If he says something is good, it is.
I've been ordering like crazy too. I sent my order to Miller's Manor for
BANGLES, the acclaimed mtb by return mail. "Limited" says the catalog. Also
ordered the new sdb, SWEET THING (another CHUBBY CHEEKS progeny). Lynda
Miller has introduced some excellent sdb's and mdb's. DARK VADER! I hope
everyone has a chance to grow ANGEL'S HALO, a gorgeous reverse amoena plicata
sdb.

We grow many mtb's (including REMINISCENCE, Clarence). The prime source for
these delicate and delightful plants is Terry Varner's Ohio Gardens. His
catalog his incredibly complete and very helpfully descriptive.

I always order from Keppel and Ghio. Their introductions seem to always be
worthy, and they offer excellent selections of new hybrids by other breeders.
This year I'm ordering Ghio's ENCHANTMENT a blend of pastel colors. From
Keith Keppel, I'm going for NIGHT GAME, an almost-sib of TOM JOHNSON and a
couple of his new sdb's.

I'm peering into the mailbox every day now hoping to see the Adamgrove and
Schreiner catalogs. Adamgrove publishes a beautiful book with emphasis on
dwarfs and medians. I was disappointed to see that one of you has had
problems ordering from them. I hope it gets worked out. I think sometimes
iris enterpreneurs are good at growing iris, but a little lacking in business
acumen and customer relations.
