Cynthia - i am not ignoring you, just getting farther and farther behind on
my mail as it gets warmer (thank goodness). my newest 'favorite' place to
order from is
Mountain View Iris Gardens

you are in california, where all the most gorgeous new forms and colors seem
to come from (plus australia), so i would think you can probably grow about
anything you want. plicatas do especially poorly in my garden (with
exceptions of course), but i have no idea what to say about where you are.
my garden, on the other hand, is in a 'more difficult' climate for bearded
iris, and my soil and garden location make it even harder on them. winter
rains don't seem to be a problem here because the iris are pretty much
dormant - lots of rain and humidity in the growing season seems to really
cause rot.
so, some of the other 99 members of the list server must be in california and
can give you better advice than i can.
<<Is there a source for species in particular?
i don't grow species, so don't know. is that on the net page?
