Lloyd -- It was Earl Roberts who got me started in hybridizing. He was a
wonderful fellow, and it's too bad we lost him when we did. I saw my
first rebloomer in his garden. He used to scold me about making crosses
of older varieties. "What do you want to mess with them for?" he prodded
me. He was probably right, on balance. But the answer to his question
was, "Because they're beautiful."
