Well, maybe it's not the iris itself that is irritating, but it's
the weather instead. The situation is, my irises are finally
blooming. I'd received some divides from a friend a couple of years
ago, planted them, but they'd never bloomed. About a month and a
half ago, I noticed one was going to bloom. I got really excited,
and checked on it at least once a day, when it finally bloomed, we
got a rain and wind storm that all but destroyed the bloom. Then the
second bud started to develop more, and when it bloomed we got
another wind and rain storm that ruined that bloom too. Now I've
noticed that another plant will be blooming soon, but I fear another
repeat of wind and rain destroying the bloom I have been patiently
waiting for. Is there anything I can do to try and protect the
bloom? I thought about upending a bucket of some sort over it and
weighting it for the duration of the storm, but I can't find a bucket
tall enough. Should I just go ahead and cut it off and put it in a
vase in the house? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I just
hate seeing that the bloom has opened, and I get to enjoy it for all
of a few hours.
Thanks,
Katherine Roberts
