I have some firsthand (but not recent) acquaintance with the Hammersmith
tube station, so I am curious about what lies behind your parenthetic
comment above, if you would care to elucidate.
At the time of my familiarity (mid-'80's) it did not seem anywhere near as
weird to me as most NYC subway stations were in the '60's.
