Louisianas

I think that most Louisianas must be quite cold hardy. A number of years ago
I was fascinated by those beautiful flowers & I still think they are the
most beautiful of the larger irises. At one point I had about 50 different
cultivars which all came through a winter with a low temperature of -32 C or
-26 F. The problem with them was not in keeping them alive, indeed many of
them were hard to kill. I did stop growing them because mostly they were
very unreliable for bloom.

I doubt that it wasn't warm enough for them to bloom because at that time of
the year we are usually into the 90s every day. The difficulty is the lack
of humidity I think. Nevertheless, there were a few, perhaps 6 or 7 which
did bloom quite regularly. I can probably dig back into my notes and find
the names if anyone is interested, but I won't be able to get it it for a
few days. I do recall that Black Gamecock was one of the few which never did
produce a blossom.
