Perhaps it is too cold after all. Could it be that the infantile bud tissue
is damaged by the winter cold while the vegetative tissues remain undamaged.
We do not usually get much in the way of late spring frosts so I doubt that
would be the cause.
It may simply be that I did not supply sufficient water. They did get extra
water but perhaps not enough extra. In fact it was their demand for water
which eventually caused me to stop experimenting with them. Water is the
limiting factor on pretty well everything we do here.
