A controlled trial was carried out over here last year by the Consumers
Association of all the proprietary cut flower products and also all the old
wive's tales - the best results came from using flat lemonade (1 part
lemonade to two parts water) - the citric acid prevents the water
discolouring, and the sugar provides food for the plant. Sprite would
probably work fine. I've found no need to change the water or trim the stem
every day - every two or three days is fine. Stems are forever being cullled
here for closer inspection indoors.
