My experience matches your own, Rick. I think that in most of the Western
US, arilbreds can and should be given the same culture as TBs. Anyone who
lives in a climate where they have to irrigate to keep bearded irises alive
can probably grow wonderful ABs with no fuss at all.
In wetter climates (where annual rainfall is 30, 40, 50 inches or more) and
soil is naturally on the acid side, the ABs are still more of a challenge,
of course.
