you very much for these sources.  I will contact them right away.
    As for displaying a "deer scarer" with JI, I'm working up to that.
My heseitation is that JI are more difficult here on our Denver high
plains than beardeds due to our aridity and alkalinity. They will take a
special bed.
	In another note you mentioned mixing JI with azaleas, which is what I
hope do. The catalogues make such grand claims for the hardiness of
modern azaleas that they seem worth trying, although I knew older types
to fail in New Jersey when I was a child.
	Your story is so fascinating I am forwarding it on to my son, who spent
a year teaching English in Japan.  Perhaps he  will have an opinion as
to the proper name for the item we mean.  
	A last word: Cherish those images you don't want radio-scanned! That
allusion was the happiest thought I've seen on the iris L so far. You do
make us smile.
