I should expand a little on what exactly our HPS Administrator (Pam Adams)
does. I do not pretend that this list is exhaustive, but here goes:
- keeping membership records
- collecting subscriptions
- publicity and PR - her press work is largely responsible for the increase
in membership through improved publicity, a job which no volunteer would
really be able to committ themselves to fully or effectively IMHO.
- tying together all the volunteers, officers and regional groups (although
some of the officers do much of this work) and making sure that we all do
that we are supposed to do, when we are supposed to do it.
- dealing with sales items (but not the seed list)
- dealing with legal issues - e.g. charity status, insurances, etc.
Things Pam does not do:
- vote on committee (although she sits on it)
- administer the seed exchange/list (which is done by about a half a dozen
volunteers)
- have any involvement with the Hardy Plant magazine or the Newsletter (each
has its own editor - Pam does provide some of the content)
- deal with any plant matters (although she readily passes enquiries on, and
usually knows who can answer problems)
Things Pam is good at (essential requirements for an Administrator):
- well organised and methodical
- clear headed - takes a good overview of the whole society and aids the
Chairman in giving the Society direction - she is a sort of adviser
