I continue to be amazed at the wealth of information generated by this list
and the knowledge level of the members!
I recently asked for help identifying a plant grown here in Florida that is
referred to as an African iris. Fund lots of help from the list and the
plant was identified as Dietes Vegeta. Was later informed that this was an
IRID - a member of the iris family. Have been delighted to see pictures of
some beautiful irids posted on the cork board. Prior to this, I had never
heard of irids. They intrigue me and I have several rather simple-minded
questions.
1. Is there an active organization or society devoted to the irids?
2. What publications, if any, are available dealing with irids?
3. I assume from comments re: irids on the list that there plants that grow
from both bulbs and rhizomes. Is this correct?
4. Can I assume that these plants WOULD NOT be shown at an iris show even
though they are members of the iris family?
Thanks
