Dear Listmemebers,
Finally made it to the local family-owned gardening center yesterday to
purchase Cygon 2E. I was told by the owners that it will no longer be
available for them to sell. They had 2 bottles on the shelf from last year.
Does anyone know if this ban applies only to OTC sales? Will commercial
growers be allowed to purchase for their own use-but not resell? What is
going to be the new choice for borers? (Any biological or IPM remedy-I hate
chemicals!)
They also told me they could not get any rhizomes from their usual
suppliers in Northwest. They will not have ANY irises for sale this year.
(They usually sell very mundane varieties for $ 8-15 per 1-3 gallon pot).
Is this a problem from the catalog sales as well? Has there been so much
trouble with weather that the supply of irises is going to be limited?
Don't mean to be a gloom and doomer so early in the AM!
Here in Zone 7 in NC I have some ancient purple came-with -the house irises
showing color and many other named varieties well-budded!
Jill in NC
Zone 7
P.S. Also had a frost/hard freeze warning last night-my husband
and I didn't believe it but used every sheet, blanket, bedspread,
beach towel and even old shirts to cover all perrenial borders. You can bet
we were out there early retrieving the "laundry" before the neighbors
wereup! Our shade thermometer said 30 degrees;water in birdbaths not
frozen. I think we were duped!
