Jill in NC wrote (7Mar97 05:57:58) that her local supplier said in effect
that Cygon 2E was going off the market. I bought some two days ago at
Southern States Co-operative in Leesburg. They had a lot on the shelf.
Manufacturer is Dragon Chemical in Roanoke. The accompanying pamphlet
carries strong warnings: impervious gloves, long sleeved shirt, broad
brimmed hat, eye protection, etc. Clearly it is to be handled with extreme
care, but apparently is safe to use if used according to instructions.
I called Dragon with a question on another chemical about a year ago:
(540)-362-3657. They were quite helpful. Anyone with Cygon questions might
want to consult them. (Sorry, there seems to be no 800 number.)
A possible alternative might be Lindane, which is effective for the borers
that attack birch trees in early spring, but it also must be handled with
great care. Have you consulted your Cooperative Extension Service?
