Hi Lora,
Glad you didn't find any borers on your iris in Volcano, California
because if you did, it would make history. We don't have iris borers in
California!
Normally, they are only a problem East of the Rockies. We remember them
when we lived in Virginia.

Central California Sierra Nevada foothills--Zone 8--we also hit 70 today
with brilliant sunshine. Blooming now we have Radiant Angel, Sister
Miriam Sings, Priscilla of Corinth, and that "East Coast favorite"
Skookumchuck, plus SDBs Jewel Baby, Little Bluets, Olive Garden, and
several I.lutescens that we grew from SIGNA seed.
