Number two son has an Olympus D300L 1,024 X 768 pixels that he has let me
play with. Several down sides. Its download software plug-in takes 16 megs
of *free* ram. Also, it often has a green colorcast that must be cleaned up
in Photoshop. The fixed focus lens is a bummer and it EATS batteries.
MacUser had the following quote from a review of 2nd generation digitals:
"The Olympus D-200L is by far the pick of the litter here. It's well
designed and easy to use and delivers clear, crisp images with realistic
color. The costlier D-300L has the same great design, but despite its
higher resolution, its images are of lower quality."
When all is said and done my Nikon 8008 coupled with a HP flatbed for
reflective material and the Nikon Coolscan for transparencies give 'order
of magnitude' better results than the $1K digitals. The above setup also
beats $30K digitals.
Someday! my digital will be useable AND affordable.
