Graham -- Population control by eating admittedly isn't all that
efficient, but it has its rewards. Here in Virginia, we tend to pass
over the quail's eggs, since the bird itself tastes so good. Also, some
of us use slugs (12-gauge, not banana) to control deer. This has the
effect of (1) discouraging certain deer permanently, and (2) providing
something to put in the refrigerator besides iris seeds.
