My sentiments exactly.

The advantage to a newsgroup would be the binaries; it would be easier to
exchange photographs and such without jamming up someones limited mailbox
or creating massive downloads for a single jpeg or gif. If the
smut-peddlers can post pictures I don't see why the Iris folk can't. Also,
there are many gardening related pictures in the newsgroups.

The next person who complains about Iris-l should be forced to subscribe to
Gardens-l for a month. 100-200 messages a day and 90% is pure fluff and
drivel. That'll shut 'em up.

I do belong to Gardens-l but I use a filter to make it easier to deal with.
And my magic delete finger, of course. My mail program also sorts by
"From", "Subject",and "Received" with one click. Block-deletes are a snap.

As for filters: every good mail program has them. They sort your mail into
different folders according to your preferences. Make things a lot
simpler. There are some sweet people on Gardens-l who post 20-30 messages
a day. And they never have anything to say. They're stuff goes straight
into "Deleted Items" without my ever having to look at it.

And as for the people who whine about the one-precious-second it takes to
scan a message and delete it: SWITCH TO DECAFF! There's nothing more
obnoxious than a hyper-active control-freak with a computer at his/her
disposal.

Love and kisses,
Keith, expecting to get flamed in WNY, zone 5 with freezing rain
