Art, I would say they'll do OK. More sun is better, of course, but I know of
an iris garden with the same kind of situation (low winter sun exposure due
to trees and sun position in sky), and they do fine. I don't believe the
winter is nearly as important as the summer sun, since the plants are
dormant, anyway. In fact, strong winter sun exposure can lead to problems
with premature growth before winter is really over, around here.
