I have had <some> success with rebloomers in zone 5. Of course Colorado zone
5 is a quite different proposition from East Coast zone 5. We have a shorter
season with more sunshine and less humidity.
Interestingly the rebloomers that do best here are not the ones that get most
mention elsewhere. Many Colorado irisarians would list CHAMPAGNE ELEGANCE as
the best reblooming tb, although in my experience it is outpreformed by the
beautiful TOTAL RECALL, which has been almost an everbloomer in our garden.
I have one nice IB reblooming seedling, but it is one of very few rebloomers
from many crosses of advertised rebloomer parents. Conversely, some famous
rebloomers such as IMMORTALITY and BABY BLESSED have not been dependable
here.
Generally, though, there is no doubt that growing for rebloom is more
difficult here than in places with longer growing seasons. Most advertised
rebloomers simply don't.
