The type of interspecies cross, i.e, I pseudacorus X I. ensata, cited by
John Coble is definitely a wide cross, but in iris literature this type of
cross is usually referred to as an "interspecies cross." The term "wide
cross" is most commonly used when speaking or writing about breeding within a
group of the same or similar types of irises, e.g. TBs. The opposite of a
