My experience with lifting irises during the blooming season was
successful if you don't want blooms next year. A person sells irises up
here (Low Sierras) during the bloom season so people can see and get
what they want. I've bought from her two times, both with the same
results. Some didn't bloom the second year. Irises are hardy and you can
lift them anytime (out here). I too am in zone 7. My experience is with
TB's only.
