Computer printed labels

In my experience (extensive) most computer labels fade within one season if
in direct sun. There is one exception - thermal transfer. A bit esoteric for
most people, but this is the ultimate in outdoor plant label printing.
Printer and software kits over here start at around #1500 (=US $2700) and run
fine on a moderately specified Windows PC. They can print labels that stick
in the ground, labels that tie to the plant or self adhesive labels (on
vinyl) which have an excellent weatherproof adhesive that sticks to anything.
I'm hoping to purchase one of these in the next few weeks if we can afford
one - but we may have to get something cheaper (and inevitably less good).
Thermal transfer labels on this nursery (on plants received from other
nurseries) are as good today as they were three years ago, exposed to full
sun.
