Re: Instructions on starting irises from seeds

The instructions for starting seed on the Canadian Iris Society page are
excellent, they are detailed and clearly written. These instructions are for
Japanese and siberian irises only. A visit to this page begins with a view
of Vincent van Gogh's
Irises a reason, if you have no other, to visit.

So - I suggest, if it is legal and proper - that someone with access to the
Norman Deno book post the pages on seed germination for irises or at least
for those species for which there are inquiries.

I have started setosa and pseudocorus with about four weeks in peat in the
fridge. Others, vericolor and tectorum were treated the same but did not
germinate. Those that did not germinate were planted out in a cold frame and
came up one year later. Sometime ago a writer to this list posted the rock
gardener's method of using sand covered pots and germinating outdoors. This
may be recalled and mentioned again because marking seeds and keeping track
would be more efficient this way.

I would appreciate any information on iris seed germination. Hands on
experience is the best.
