I do not know if people in the iris round robins do the things that the
people in lily round robins do or not but the lily round robin I direct
is a group of 10 to 12 people who exchange news about the general
culture of lilies. We also share seeds, send photos of lilies, keep
track of one another's successes and travels and generally form fairly
firm friendships. Often the members get to meet one another and even
travel to visit each other. It is more like a "family" than a large
group seems to be. We also send copies of articles of interest from
newspapers and magazines. These usually include photos of a member or
their flowers. I think all the information available in a robin might
be available electronically to this whole group but there doesn't seem
to be a way to send seeds to everyone nor an inexpensive way to send
photos etc. so you see each serves a need. I also think the robins are
a part of a society (lily or iris) and must meet the criteria set forth
in the bilaws of the society.
I think the suggestion by one of the members who belongs to a dog round
robin is a good one, in the "subject" line of the e-mail note something
such as: Arils from seed or JI from seed or whatever. The dry side
people could read about the type of iris they can grow and the wet side
ones about the ones they can grow. A secondary subject name would make
it even more specific. Things like plant markers which are of interest
to the wets, drys and whatever passes for weather anywhere iris are
grown would continue to have "markers" as the subject denoting
something of interest to all.
This is the first day of spring! Yea!
