Today, March 20, the Greater Portland Iris Society, and the iris world
in general has suffered the loss of a great lady. Evelyn Jones, wife of
Bennett Jones, died at 1:00 am after a long and courageous battle
against pancreatic cancer. Her prescnce will be sorely missed by all who
knew her and especially by both Nancy and myself. On our arrival here
in Oregon, Evelyn saw to it that we were welcomed into the local iris
affairs on both the society and personal levels. Evelyn was, for both
of us, our Oregon surrogate mother.
As you may or may not know Evelyn headed the AIS Library Committee and
it was Evelyn's desire that any contributions or memorials in her honor
be specifically directed to the AIS Library.
