That puts the situation in the proverbial nutshell.
I launched the first e-mail robin BEFORE the IRIS-L came into being, but it
certainly didn't inhibit the growth of the list. The only thing that can kill
the list is the non-participation of its own members. It's big enough to
accommodate many lurkers -- but if EVERYONE sits back and waits for someone else
to ask a question, the informative discussions will soon dry up.
I can only speak for myself, but I will stay on the list as long as there are
questions I can answer. You haven't seen much of me lately, mostly because the
tradition of posing questions has been getting lost amidst the demand and
complaints.
If there's something you want to know: all you have to do is ASK. This group
includes experts in many different fields -- but NONE of us are accomplished
mind-readers.
