I probably didn't sneak a peek into my database when the earlier question
of rebloom arose. Rectifying that now, when the grandparents are examined,
evidence of remontant tendencies exist:
2,1 -- Closed Circuit (Schreiner's 81) is pretty much a closed book as
undisclosed seedlings comprise most of its heritage.
2,2 -- Spinning Wheel (Nearpass 76) is a remontant carrier, probably through
multiple doses of H. P. Sass' 65-35, and at least one shot of Tiffany
(H.P. Sass 38)
2,3 -- Schreiner K1310-1 goes back to long season rebloomers and remontant
carriers through Siva Siva (Gibson 62)
2,4 -- Smoke Rings (Gibson 72) while itself only a warm climate rebloomer,
has a
strong heritage of rebloom in its background
It is fairly safe to assume that the 2,1 leg is extremely thin on
rebloomers and carriers, however the other three grandparents make up for
the lack. I would guess that when more data accumulates, CHANGE OF PACE
will be categorized as a late season or frost-free-area rebloomer. It is
often assumed that if the season is long enough, nearly everything will
occasionally rebloom -- such is not the case. The background must be there
for an iris to throw an out-of-season stalk.
