I just finished cleaning my TB, IB, BB, MDB, MTB beds and find my loss from
winter rot very low. It wasn't the gummy rot but the puffy winter rot where
the
crown just pulls loose from the mother rhizome. Out of 500 plus plants I
lost
approximately 10 this way. We have had a very dry winter and I have watered
monthly to make up for the loss of snow cover. We have had possibly four
snows
with a maximum of 6inches of cover. The last week our temperature has been
in
the mid seventies and lows of high 30ties. Wwiekhorst@aol.com at 6300 feet
elevation and zone 4.
PS. Who has the magic formula ? Should the ground be moist in the winter or
slightly on the dry side. My iris are planted in raised beds with good
drainage.
