Re: CULT: % of losses

also very cold hardy, and I think you would be happy with them. I have a
bit
more trouble with the MDBs (Miniature Dwarf Beardeds) because they are so
little, and hard to get established in our miserable freeze-thaw cycles. If
you get a good sized chunk to start out with, that is helpful.

I have almost no bearded iris except the historics so am not aware of the
differences
in cultural requirements in the many classes.

This winter in a club program I saw slides of MDB's growing along rocks and
in natural sitings. It occurred to some of us that the very small MDB,
blooming early, would provide the early color we had sought from the small
spring bulbs. The bulbs are all but impossible to grow because vole damage
and they encourage a buildup of vole populations.

They could look smashing in rock garden settings and in pockets along walks,
etc.
Thus, having talked myself into a big collection of MDB's and having believed
they would be "easy" and hardy (Dorothy's garden is southern NY!) What else
should I know? Among these little irises are some tender? Is there a list
of survivors? Dorothy mentioned "a good sized chunk" - how do I get a good
sized chunk?
