Since you include New Zealand in your enquiry I will try to give a brief
Sitrep. Importation of irises from USA has never been easy largely
because few growers have been willing to complete the necessary FEDERAL
phyto-sanitary certificate. More recently our Agri requirements have
tightened up to the stage where it is a practical impossibility for a
home gardener to import irises directly. We are therefore in the hands of
our own Iris nurseries who can import but I do not see enough local
catalogues to give an opinion on American sources. Barry Blyth is
represented by one local nursery so that modern Australian irises are
easily come by and Eddie Johns is importing Sibiricas and Japanese irises
from USA. American bearded irises are still coming in but I have no
details of quantity or from where.
